Since I was a mere child, elder and middle-aged people talk about "bola canaria" but with football, basketball and swimming, who will listen to them? Sadly I didn't but now I know that I should have.
It is a traditional sport similar to petanque although balls in this sport are heavier and the field is bigger. It was introduced in Canary Island during the conquest of the Spanish. Nowadays there is not really sure which is the main material with which balls are done, someone says wood and someone impasto.
The game starts with the usual flip coin, the winner chooses "el boliche", a smaller ball from 35 to 45mm in diameter and a weight from 50 to 500 grams or the colour of the balls. The team who has "el boliche" starts throwing it and the first ball. Every ball apart from "el boliche" has 90 y 120 mm in diameter and the weight goes from 1 to 1,2 kilogram. The score is easy to count, the team with the nearest balls next to "el boliche" wins 1,2 or 3 points, it depends on how many there are. Sometimes the use of the measuring tape is mandatory to clarify the winner of each game.
